This painting is the second painting I've done in the plain air tradition.  This hill was a gorgeously lit hillside covered with wild mustard flowers, overlooking the slough.  We fought a barrage of ticks and the beating sun.  There was no wind, so the pallet didn't dry as quickly as it did on my first excursion.  I attempted to use the classical layout of the dark foreground and the light center as Claude Lorraine had done.
